Your van, your livelihood: outsmart thieves!

You use it for transporting materials, home delivery of orders, storing work equipment… The thought of anyone stealing your trusted companion would be very unsettling.

Prevent theft with these simple tips:

  • Never leave the key in the ignition. Not even for an instant!
  • Always find a safe parking space: in a garage, inside a fenced-off area or at least somewhere where you can keep an eye on things.
  • Make clear agreements with your employees on proper handling.

It all sounds so obvious, but it only takes the slightest carelessness for people with bad intentions to spot an opportunity.

Prevent your van being broken into with these tips!

It is not only the van itself that is precious to you. Often its contents is highly valuable too.

This is how you outsmart thieves:

  • Always close and lock all doors, even if you are only gone for a few minutes.
  • Don't leave valuables in plain sight.
  • Have anti-theft locking systems installed on the outside of the rear and side doors.

Note: under certain conditions, this investment can be tax deductible.

  • Finished loading and unloading? Park the van tightly in a corner to block access to the rear and side doors. That way a thief will not be able to open them.
  • Secure valuable tools with specially developed tracking devices. This deters thieves and it helps to trace your belongings, should they do go AWOL.

Which insurance policies protect your van?

If you follow the tips listed above, the chances of you getting robbed will be noticeably reduced. But we still advise you to be safer than sorry and include the risk of theft in your insurance policy.

Your KBC insurance agent will be happy to advise you on the policies that best suit your situation. These options already include coverage in case of break-in or theft:

  • Semi-comprehensive Insurance (https://www.kbc.be/business/en/products/insurance/vehicles/vehicle-insurance.html?zone=topnav#gedeeltelijke) covers any damage caused by theft.
  • Goods in Transit Insurance (https://www.kbc.be/ondernemen/nl/product/verzekeringen/voertuigen/polis-lichte-vrachtauto.html#goederen) is an interesting add-on. It covers van contents theft, such as your equipment or goods out on delivery.
